Before using MESSY PET to remove stains and odors from your furniture, check the manufacturer’s label for the cleaning code:
W: Can be cleaned with water-based cleaners like MESSY PET
S: Dry clean only or use a solvent (do not use a water-based cleaner like MESSY PET)
X: Not cleanable – vacuum only
Enzymes are effective in safely and permanently removing all elements of cat urine, which can be even tougher than dog urine to eliminate. Other cleaners like peroxide, vinegar, detergent, ammonia, chlorine, and baking soda, don’t break down the uric acid as well, meaning the urine odor can return.
MESSY PET is non-toxic and not harmful if swallowed.
It could be due to one or more of the following:
1. The enzymes in MESSY PET can become ineffective if used after other cleaning products have been applied to the affected area. MESSY PET works best if it is the first and only product used. If other products have been used, thoroughly clean the area with clean water to get rid of any residue. Let the area dry completely and then use MESSY PET.
2. Not enough MESSY PET was used to reach all of the urine. If the urine penetrated deep into, say, the padding underlying carpet, then MESSY PET also needs to reach there.
3. After treating your carpet, your pet may have revisited and re-marked the area before it dried. Urine odor is eliminated during the drying process. If you can’t keep your pet away, place a laundry basket upside down over the area to allow air circulation while keeping your pet away. The more product you use, the longer it will take to completely dry.
Your pet’s sense of smell is much stronger than yours. PET DETERRENT contains a natural blend of plant-based oils that most cats detest. Some cats have different odors that they like or don’t. Not all cats are the same. Along with PET DETERRENT, cats still need to be trained to avoid bad behavior.
Use on practically any surface, indoors or outdoors, to deter scratching, marking, and other unwanted behaviors. Indoors, use on carpets, couches, furniture, upholstery, floors, countertops, and houseplants. Outdoors, use on patios and garden areas.
For windows, doors, and screens, spray on cloth and attach cloth to affected area.
Odor from uric acid — the pungent smell in cat urine — should be removed before the behavior can be prevented, because once a cat has marked its territory and detects its scent, it’s a signal that they can continue to use this area.
MESSY PET STAIN & ODOR REMOVER, another product from MESSY PET, is excellent at removing uric acid smells. After applying, keep your pet away until the area has dried. Then get close and check the smell to determine whether you need to treat it again. Once the odor is eliminated then TRAINING DETERRENT can be used as directed.
Animals’ tastes vary, just like in humans. Not all scents will deter all felines, so success is not guaranteed.
